DTGD: Final Phase!

I finished my last DTGD card on Sunday, and am now anxiously awaiting the reveal of the prize winners--I read they picked up quite a few items at CHA.  Yippee!
Little known fact: I was in FFA all four years of high school and raised pigs to show.  Yeah, I know, you never would have guessed, would you?  So when I saw Darlene's fan club card, I knew I had to CASE it!  I've had this Cuttlekids pig die (named Ian!) since about the first month I started stamping, but have never used it on a card.  I cut the body out of October Afternoon paper, and although the die has a separate snout, I liked Darlene's use of the button.  The wings are the big butterfly from the SU Embosslet, cut in half and bent back a little.  I used dimensionals three-deep to accommodate the wings. The sentiment is from PTI Enjoy The Ride and I added sewing around the Sage Shadow embossed layer and the cute striped OA layer. Get ready for some extreme cuteness:

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to give this one away.  This next one, however, I made just for my MIL, so I did give it away to her.
She does a lot of work with the Leatherback Trust and when I saw this $1 turtle stamp, I had to pick it up.  I really would have preferred that she had picked a prettier turtle to love, but I knew she would like the fact it was personalized for her.  The shell was colored with copics and the body with prismacolor pencils, then I used a white gel pen for the dots.  I used an old SCS layout and some Maine Blueberry dp, and of course some Soft Suede because I have addiction issues.

We went to lunch and a movie today since it's the last day that DH & I are both off before school starts on Monday.  Since we finished lunch early, I suggested popping into the Hallmark store.  And yes, now we will have Boba Fett and Han Solo (in carbonite) on our tree.  I also think I could buy the entire line of Fresh Ink cards.  In fact, you may be seeing some "inspired by" cards here pretty soon.  Does anyone else miss buying store-bought cards?

FFA, huh? No way!! I grew up in Ohio and, while I wasn't in FFA, tons of kids in our school were and I just figured it was everywhere. My parents still order produce from FFA fundraisers. The FL citrus we got from FFA each Christmas was *such* a treat. I live in MA now and mentioned FFA while talking with some girlfriends last month, and not a single one had any idea what I was talking about!!

Anyway, LOVE the piggy card!! Congrats on finishing the DTGD challenges. I hope you win something!! The turtle card is super cute, too. I just recently got a sea turtle stamp, too, and it's awfully realistic looking. I love it but I think I'm going to have to do something to pretty it up a bit. So I know where you're coming from!!

Back to school next week?? Yikes!! Good luck getting ready :)

Howdy Meg -
Well, while this Detroiter never came within spitting distance of FFA, I still think your pig is abso-snoutly adorable. I love the wings! And the patterns! And the button!
The turtle is so sweet, too -- I'm sure your MIL will love it.
I haven't looked at cards in a Hallmark in so long, it's like a foreign country! When I check out the ornaments (Ooh, carbonite Han Solo? Cool!), I don't even notice the cards!
Still can't believe school starts so early for you! Have fun. I hope you don't get any weenie kids this year.

Very cute! I love the piggy card. I bought this die for my daughter not too long ago. She loves pigs (based on "If You Give A Pig a Pancake" but the love has lasted 8 years.)

The turtle card is lovely. Your MIL will love it. I love personalized cards.

I have purchased a few store bought cards since I began crafting. I cannot possibly make enough Christmas cards so I do buy a box or so for my business/work contacts.

I'm going to have to get to Hallmark to check out the ornaments soon before the best ones are gone. I let my daughter pick out a special ornament each year.

Take care!

PS. I am a mid-west girl too. I live in WI. I was never in FFA but my DD wants to join 4H through school.

Oh my gosh, Meg! How fantastic are these?! LOVE THEM!

Not sure you can send anyone the pig one? My birthday is next month and I'd love it. ;D I LOVE those butterfly wings! Much like Cheryl's daughter, my son loves the whole Mouse Cookies & More Treasury. It's so much fun!

I cannot believe you dotted that turtle. It looks incredible! Not a pretty turtle, you say? You totally made it pretty! I love the tag style frame.

Yay for being a Star Wars fan but what tree? Your Christmas tree is up already?! As for Hallmark or any other card specific store, I rarely go in. If I'm at the bookstore looking at wrapping paper, I totally ignore the <$5 cards but I often look at the >$10 cards since they're more interesting. Sometimes they give me ideas but I'd much rather admire the small artists in small boutiques who don't sell out to those big conglomerates. ;)

Love the pig card...you are tooo creative! Your MIL's card is perfect as well. I go to Hallmark once a year for Christmas ornaments...period. The price on the backs of the cards is motivation enough to go home and stamp!
