What the Font?

I thought I'd mention one of my favorite cardmaking tools...What The Font?. You can upload an image and it will give you suggestions of matching fonts. Or stroll through the "solved" cases to find some cool fonts. I clip a photo of the font I want to match, upload it, then use google to find the font + "free." Easy peezy.

Some Recent Favorites

Yesterday I updated my stamping index (I hadn't worked on it since last year!). I didn't get a new card made, so I thought I'd share some of my recent favorite cards that I've made.

I made this card for a VSN challenge to use the seriograph technique. Well, I didn't so much do seriograph as I used brayered background, but I ended up loving the results. I didn't even try to match the cardstock colors, and yet they ended up coordinating perfectly. How's that for fate?

I made this card for a Taylored Expressions sketch challenge. It was for my FIL's birthday, but after seeing it sit around on my DH's desk for a week, I asked why he hadn't sent it yet. He said it was too good for his dad! So now this card is residing on my DH's desk and I had to make another one for his dad. A little known Meg fact: I've recently become addicted to glossy accents.

...as you can tell in this third and final card for this post. My friend asked me to make a combination graduation and engagement card. Well, how the heck was I supposed to combine those? Then this idea struck and it was one of those that halfway through the card you know it's either going to be fabulous or end in tears and frustrations. Happy to report it was the former! The cans are toothpick pieces covered in tin foil. The fonts are Carmine and Dream Lover, which match the stamp set perfectly (I know, it would have been a great sentiment for the set but surprisingly Nichole didn't ask me about it before she made it).

Over the Hill

I thought my first card posted should be one of my recent favorites.  This card was for the CAS Summer Design Team search:  make a card with a movable part. So I made a kind of viewmaster/spinner type card for an Over the Hill birthday (which, upon showing my DH, was told I am to keep it for his 40th, which is still a few years away!).

I traced part of the S5 circle nestie for the hill onto scratch paper first, and extended the hill out to the sides of the card. Then I cut a L7 circle nestie out of PTI white. I traced what portion would show when the rock was on the right and stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment onto the border (hooray for clear stamps which you can make into any shape!).I then cut away the bottom portion of the circle that would show when the rock was on the left. I cut the rock out of SU Gray and used Memento London Fog to do a little sponging. I attached the rock using a dime, dimensionals, and scortape (like a spinner card).

I attached the blue sky to the cardstock base and used my template to pierce a hole in the center of the circle. I then attached the viewmaster circle using a brad. I used the template to cut out the green hill, and adhered it to some PTI paper for extra stability. The numbers are adorable metal letters attached with a xyron. The whole green hill was then attached to the cardbase using dimensionals along the bottom and sides.
